Luca Badoer is now a firm fixture at Ferrari in his testing role. The Italian rose through the karting ranks, Formula 3 and F3000 and broke into Formula One with Lola Ferrari. The car was never particularly competitive yet Badoer pushed hard with the equipment at his disposal but was unable to score points.
A move to Minardi as test driver in 1994 followed, then a one year deal to race for the team in 1995 brought eighth place finishes in Canada and Hungary. Badoer moved to Forti Course in 1996, but again the equipment on offer was sadly lacking in pace and it was another difficult season.
Frustrated after running at the back of the field, Badoer grasped the opportunity to join Ferrari as test driver in 1997. With the exception of a season at Minardi in 1999 where he was again unable to score a point, Badoer has remained with Ferrari in a testing capacity ever since.
With 56 Grand Prix starts to his credit, Badoer's F1 racer career may be over, but he remains a valuable asset to Ferrari.
