Raikkonen's main challenger will be Massa
|
After four rounds of the 2008 championship Kimi Raikkonen enjoys a nine point cushion at the head of the championship standings.
The F2008 has dominated at the sweeping circuits of Malaysia, Bahrain and Spain and this weekend should be no exception as the F1 circus travels to Turkey.
"I bet that our competitors have worked hard to be prepared as good as possible to beat us at Istanbul," Raikkonen began.
"But I'm not worried at all: we worked and I'm convinced that Ferrari can be really strong there. And when you have a look at this year's tracks so far, the one at Istanbul is very similar to the one at Sepang and Sakhir, where we could win. That makes us think that we'll be competitive over the weekend."
Ferrari has a 12 point advantage in the constructors' championship over BMW Sauber, taking over the lead last time out in Barcelona. For Raikkonen, his second win for three races with team-mate Felipe Massa close behind, it was a 'perfect' race weekend.
"Barcelona was a perfect weekend for me and the team," the Finn continued.
"Now we want to keep that rhythm and we will push very hard. The pole position helped a lot and it seems that starting ahead of everybody else is a necessary condition for winning the race at Istanbul, too. Last year I made a mistake in Q3 and I paid a very high price."
Last year Raikkonen qualified in third position for the Turkish Grand Prix with Massa taking the pole position. Raikkonen would go on to finish second but he had no answer to the pace of Massa.
"Our goal is to get another one-two win," he said.
"I won't change my approach. It's too early to think about anything else than a victory. I want to bring home as many points as possible; I like to race with this aim in mind."
