KERS implementation an expensive option for 2009...

The roll-out of the new Ferrari F60 took place today at Mugello with Felipe Massa charged with the shake-down of the new car. The all-new package features the team's Kinetic Energy Recovery System but team boss Stefano Domenicali believes that the introduction of such new technology this year goes against measures that the Formula One Teams' Association and the sport’s governing body, the FIA, are trying to implement in other areas.
"I want to make a political consideration as far as the KERS is concerned: our position, which we discussed with other teams, is that in a moment - when one has to reduce costs - the introduction of such a system is a contradiction in terms," he stated.
"We can decide if we want to use the KERS in our car and when it's clear that the system will effectively improve the performance, which it seems to do in simulations, it will be our task and technical challenge, to push on with it," Domenicali continued. "Today is a very important day also as far as this system is concerned and we're testing the new system on the track."
"Tests are limited to 15,000 kilometres this year and there's no possibility to test after the start of the season. I expect that test stands and simulations will be used much more," he concluded.
