Working towards the 2010 British Grand Prix
|
Work on a €110m upgrade to ready Donington Park for the 2010 British Grand Prix has now begun.
Last Friday, the circuit was granted council planning permission for the works, including a re-profiled layout, new pit and paddock complex, grandstands and media centre.
The local
Derbyshire Evening Telegraph reports that diggers have now moved in to begin the first work, a 70 foot long access tunnel underneath the track that is scheduled to be completed by late February.
Other changes, including the new pits and the re-profiling of the layout, will be completed by April next year, spokesman Dave Fern said.
"It's a sizeable piece of construction so we can't do this on our own," track boss Simon Gillett said.
"We are going to have a lot of contractors on there, multiple sub-contractors, all drawn from the local area."
