KERS decision pending at BMW Sauber
|
BMW Sauber may wait until the day of qualifying to decide if it will use its new Kinetic Energy Recovery System in the Australian Grand Prix, its test driver said on Wednesday.
Christian Klien, also reserve driver for the Swiss-based squad in Melbourne and elsewhere on the 2009 calendar, reiterated to the Austrian newspaper
Kleine Zeitung that the team will make decisions about KERS on a race-by-race basis this season.
While team boss Mario Theissen is a staunch supporter of the newly allowed braking energy re-use technology, the power boost advantage is at some circuits offset by the extra weight and the impact on tyre wear.
"For Australia we will decide only on Friday, or perhaps even Saturday," Klien said.
So far only Ferrari, Renault and McLaren have confirmed their cars will be KERS-equipped for Sunday's race.
