Zoom Button still has a large advantage in the championship

After two consecutive Red Bull victories with himself failing to finish higher than fifth, Jenson Button has attempted to bat away the mounting pressure.

The Brawn driver's championship lead over Sebastian Vettel has plummeted from 32 points before Silverstone to just 21 points, meaning the young German could at this rate top the standings with four races to go.

Button however told reporters after the German Grand Prix that he sees the situation differently, with team-mate Rubens Barrichello dropping from second to fourth in the standings at the Nurburgring.

"My championship lead has stayed the same, although it's over a different person now," he said.

He also welcomed the fact that it was Mark Webber, and not Vettel who is now 1.5 points ahead of his Australian team-mate, who dominated on Sunday.

"It's quite good Mark won because Vettel's now got him right behind him and they'll be taking points off each other. If Vettel had won, it would have been a disaster," said Button.

Indeed, Red Bull's understandable reluctance to nominate a number one driver means that if Webber and Vettel remain dominant but also closely matched for pace and points, Button's lead is in less immediate danger.

"It's a good problem for us to have at Red Bull," Webber insisted after winning in Germany. "It's very difficult to call how the races are going to be."

The Australian acknowledged that putting ‘all your eggs in one basket’ will help Red Bull in theory.

"But you can do that for two or three races and then that guy might have two DNFs and the guy that you took points off before is in a slightly worse position, so we're (both) taking the fight as hard as we can to Brawn," Webber said.

He believes that if Brawn continues to struggle for pace, Red Bull might not need to dominate a lead driver even at a later stage.

"Maybe in the end, the last three or four or five races it will turn to one of us if we have a chance to fight Jenson, but the last two races have been interesting for them."
