Kobayashi on standby for Toyota as Glock
aims for Abu Dhabi return
The decision about whether he is fit enough to return to the Toyota cockpit in Abu Dhabi will be taken on Tuesday, Timo Glock has revealed.

The German had to sit out last weekend's Brazilian grand prix not only with his cut leg, but also a spinal injury, both incurred when he crashed qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix.

Glock is currently at Germany's Bad-Nauheim Sportklinic, and he told Auto Motor und Sport in an interview that he hopes to be given the all clear to travel to the 2009 season finale in Abu Dhabi. "So far I am okay,” he said. “I am getting around normally, I was karting yesterday and that went well without any pain.”

Part one of the problem was his lower leg injury, was the accumulating fluid. The clincher for Interlagos, with Kamui Kobayashi taking his place, was a compressed vertebra, with Glock reporting doctors' advice that the injury needs four or five weeks recovery.

As for whether he will be fit to travel to Abu Dhabi, he said a final decision will be agreed on all sides on "Tuesday next week".

It is rumoured that Glock is near the top of the list for the Renault seat alongside Robert Kubica next year, and the German does not believe his chances are being harmed by his forced absence.

"Nothing depends only on these two races," he insisted. "People already know who I am; they are all fair and want you to be physically well. No one is putting me under pressure," said Glock.
