All change for Williams with a new engine supply and two news drivers for 2010
|
Sir Frank Williams may have already let the cat out of the bag, but the team confirmed Friday evening in Abu Dhabi that they will run Cosworth engines next season having already declared that they would not run the current Toyota units next season.
“Cosworth have impressed us with the quality of their technical team and convinced us that their programme will deliver a competitive Formula One engine,” Williams stated. “In addition, like Williams, Cosworth is an independent company whose owners share our passion for racing and engineering. We believe that, working together, we will develop not only a competitive racing car for 2010 but also a long-term partnership that can take on the best in Formula One.”
Williams will join new teams Campos, Manor and USF1 in running re-worked versions of the 2006 2.4 litre V8 engine.
“Cosworth is delighted to be renewing our partnership with Williams,” said Cosworth general manager Mark Gallagher. “We look forward to forging a long-standing relationship, not only for the supply of competitive Formula One engines, but also in the joint development of new technologies that have wider application outside of Formula One.”
The team is to announce its drivers, believed to be Nico Hulkenberg and Rubens Barrichello, on Monday.
