13:50:36 Welcome to F1-Live.com and live coverage of the second practice session of the opening day of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
13:52:31 This morning’s 90-minute session saw Fernando Alonso set the pace in his McLaren Mercedes from team-mate Lewis Hamilton. With two tyre specs available from Bridgestone, soft and super-soft, Alonso set the pace of the softest option.
13:54:15 Hamilton worked just on the harder option and was six-tenths slower than Alonso while Heidfeld was third fastest in his BMW Sauber on the softer tyre. Hamilton however did hit mechanical problems and sat out the latter part of the session.
13:56:05 Giancarlo Fisichella has just set the fourth fastest time before clipping the kerb and going off at Sainte Devote. Despite the off, it was an encouraging session for the Italian.
13:58:25 Kimi Raikkonen was fifth fastest in his Ferrari with team-mate Felipe Massa in eighth. In between Mark Webber was sixth, despite damaging his wheel right at the end of the session, just ahead of Nico Rosberg.
14:00:13 The second practice session is now underway.
14:00:55 A handful of cars exit the pits. This afternoon many of the runners will be conducting longer runs in preparation for Sunday’s big race. With Friday a day of inactivity on track, many may well opt to go for a time to make the headlines.
14:01:49 More cars now leave the pits and should set about a relatively long stint.
14:02:24 Christijan Albers pits his Spyker. He had a problem with the car in the morning and is now playing catch-up with regards to his Thursday programme.
14:03:19 Tonio Liuzzi records the first timed lap of the session.
14:04:02 The first timed laps are now being completed with Kubica fastest in his BMW Sauber from Kovalainen and Liuzzi.
14:04:32 The front runners have remained in the the pits for the time being.
14:05:49 Alonso and Hamilton have now left the pit lane.
14:06:15 Kubica, ninth fastest this morning, improves his own best ahead of Liuzzi and Sato.
14:06:53 Nico Rosberg pops up the order in his Williams Toyota.
14:07:32 Hamilton moves fastest in his McLaren as Kubica heads for the pits.
14:07:57 Alonso moves second fastest, about six-tenths off the pace of Hamilton.
14:09:00 Hamilton improves on his next lap and is now a tenth faster than he managed this morning.
14:11:25 Kimi Raikkonen is on track in his Ferrari.
14:11:44 Hamilton has pitted after that stint.
14:11:51 An improvement from Barrichello moves him sixth fastest behind Wurz, Rosberg and Kubica.
14:13:10 Kubica is back out on his second run in the BMW Sauber.
14:13:21 Raikkonen's first lap moves him fifth fastest. Massa and the Red Bull duo remain in the pits.
14:13:56 Kubica now vaults to the top of the timesheets with Raikkonen up to third.
14:15:59 Raikkonen improves his time but not his position as Alonso joins Hamilton in the pits and Massa heads out in his F2007.
14:17:02 Giancarlo Fisichella moves fourth fastest in his Renault, the same position he occupied at the end of opening practice.
14:17:44 Massa is getting up to speed in his Ferrari and moves eighth fastest.
14:19:14 Davidson, Button and Kovalainen all find some speed and move up the order while Raikkonen continues to chip away at his own best lap time.
14:20:07 Jarno Trulli is in the process of losing a barge board on his TF107. He probably caught it on a kerb.
14:20:46 Raikkonen is now second fastest and heads to the pits.
14:21:50 Massa moves up to fourth position as Speed is right up there too in the STR.
14:22:27 Coulthard has yet to record a time and is in the pits as his team-mate starts his first stint.
14:23:51 Kubica, fastest so far, is back out on track.
14:25:50 Felipe Massa moves second fastest
14:26:49 Kubica improves his own best time and records the fastest laps of the day so far, quicker than Alonso's morning best.
14:27:16 Hamilton is back out in his McLaren and is on a hot lap.
14:28:20 Hamilton gains two positions and is second fastest behind Kubica.
14:29:12 Hamilton, still on the harder tyre, is on another hot lap.
14:29:36 A hot lap it was too as he moves fastest by nearly half a second
14:30:21 Hamilton has set his benchmark time as team-mate Alonso heads out.
14:30:55 Hamilton shaves another tenth off his own best. A very impressive string of fast laps this.
14:32:56 Alonso's first lap was nothing special and he makes no progress from seventh position as Raikkonen does find time and moves ahead of Kubica.
14:33:45 An improvement from Alonso as he moves fifth fastest.
14:34:52 Still no sign of David Coulthard. Undoubtedly a problem with the RB3 to keep him in the pits so long.
14:35:21 Jarno Trulli pops into seventh position in the Toyota.
14:37:23 The front-runners are all on long runs at the moment. We do not know the fuel loads, so it is hard to read much into the times.
14:38:10 Coulthard is out in his Red Bull Renault.
14:39:17 Tonio Liuzzi pops his Ferrari-powered Toro Rosso up to P6.
14:40:21 After a long stay in the pits, Coulthard moves 13th on his first timed lap.
14:42:11 Massa has now opted for some soft tyres on his Ferrari.
14:45:17 Hamilton and Alonso are in the pits, Raikkonen, Kubica and Massa remain on track. Massa is not making much progress on the soft tyres,
14:48:04 Raikkonen has now pitted his Ferrari while Massa is not lapping that fast at the moment.
14:49:14 Mark Webber moves fourth fastest in his Red Bull Renault.
14:51:21 Coulthard has brushed the Armco at the hairpin and is heading back to the pits. Some rally driving techniques!
14:52:05 Alonso is back out and looking to improve.
14:52:39 Improve he does as he uses a new set of hard tyres to good effect to move fastest.
14:53:15 Anthony Davidson, (12th) has gone off at Sainte Devote.
14:54:13 It is the end of the session for him with some minor damage.
14:54:50 On this new set of harder tyres Alonso is showing much better pace than earlier on.
14:55:13 Hamilton heads back out
14:57:21 Lewis Hamilton has gone off at Sainte Devot. He had just taken the soft tyre and he has damaged the front left wheel and suspension.
14:58:15 Hamilton was just too fast into the turn and the back end jumped out a little and that was the end of that.
14:58:28 So that is the end of the day for Hamilton.
15:00:25 Jarno Trulli has worked his way up the order and is now fifth fastest while Ralf Schumacher is still down near to the bottom of the timesheets.
15:02:18 Massa moves ahead of Webber and starts another relatively fast lap. Ferrari really have not shown much pace today, but then again it was similar in Barcelona and Massa ran away with that one.
15:04:28 Massa picks up another couple of spots and is now fourth fastest
15:06:27 Coulthard has only had a few laps so far in this session. He pitted a few laps ago with a dmaged wheel.
15:09:18 A shunt for Adrian Sutil.
15:10:11 Sutil clipped the kerbing at Portier and hit the front left of the wall hard. Red Flags.
15:10:40 The Spyker Ferrari is now being removed
15:11:50 So with the Red flags out, they are all back in the pit and awaiting the signal to go back out for a final few runs.
15:14:54 The session is back underway as Robert Kubicam Wurz, Heidfeld and Webber head out.
15:15:41 Alex Wurz is on harder tyres and on a timed lap
15:16:12 Fisichella, Kovalainen and Liuzzi join the action.
15:16:30 Alonso heads out.
15:16:44 Wurz has improved and is up to ninth.
15:18:11 Fernando Alonso is on a fast lap.
15:18:50 The McLaren driver is coming to the end of the lap now...
15:19:20 He is on the soft tyre as he improves his own best. Trulli has moves third fastest.
15:20:35 Alonso's next lap is not that fast showing that the sift option is really only effective for one really fast lap.
15:21:20 Kovalainen picks up a few spots and heads to the pits.
15:22:11 Raikkonen (4th) is on the soft tyre as he does improve and moves second fastest.
15:25:23 Alonso and Raikkonen remain on track on the soft tyre which has now gone over its best performance. Trulli, 4th, is in the pits while Massa, Kubica and Rosberg are on track.
15:26:42 The final minutes now and the circuit is quite busy.
15:27:02 Fisichella moves up to fifth fastest.
15:29:44 Ralf Schumacher has gone off. he is out of the car and okay.
15:30:13 Ralf just took too much kerb exiting the swiming pool and nosed the Toyota fairly hard into the Armco.
15:30:25 The chequered flag is out.
15:31:07 So a few incidents and accidents as Alonso sets the pace for the second straight session.
15:31:44 Alonso is fastest from Raikkonen, Hamilton, Trulli, Fisichella, Massa, Kubica, Rosberg, Webber an Coulthard.
