09:50:19 Welcome to F1-Live.com and live coverage of the Italian Grand Prix weekend. Today we have two 90 minute practice sessions, the first of which gets underway shortly.
09:52:13 Off track, most of the talk at the moment is with regard to McLaren and their re-arranged hearing for next week with the World Motor Sport Council after the FIA received new evidence relating to the ongoing industrial espionage scandal.
09:54:47 McLaren also made the news yesterday when it was revealed that they ran a lightweight gearbox in Hungary without having the unit crash tested. The team did not run the device in Turkey last time out, but have been fined 50,000 US dollars.
09:56:07 On a more positive note for the team, they dominated testing at this circuit last week, topping the timesheets on all four days of running. Ferrari were some way behind with BMW Sauber close on this high-speed low-downforce circuit.
09:58:11 Bridgestone have the soft and medium compounds available this weekend with a note to the teams that they must run the higher pressures as advised due to the high speed nature of the circuit.
10:00:22 The morning practice session is now underway.
10:00:41 Most will complete an installation lap and then pit for checks.
10:01:17 Liuzzi, Vettel, Davidson, Schumacher on track.
10:01:37 Sutil, Yamamoto and others now heading out.
10:01:57 As predicted it is a sunny day ay Monza - perfect conditions.
10:02:55 Hamilton heads out as the early runners all return to the pit.
10:04:11 Webber and Coulthard head out for Red Bull Renault. Hamilton returns to the pit.
10:04:45 Now it is the turn for Alonso to complete his installation lap.
10:05:38 A very steady installaton lap from Alonso. He is taking it very easy on the softer tyres. Nick Heidfeld is on track for BMW.
10:06:41 Barrichello now out for Honda as Alonso starts another lap in the McLaren. Again slow speed stuff from Alonso who must be checking something.
10:07:35 It sounds like Alonso has some kind of misfire. It is hard to tell at slow speed as Barrichello passes him.
10:08:19 Alonso seems to be cruising back to the pits with that misfire. Button is on track.
10:08:48 Sakon Yamamoto and Adrian Sutil back out in the new B-Spec Spyker Ferrari. Alonso has pitted.
10:09:46 Friday is deemed to be a free practice day, so there are no engine change penalties.
10:10:57 Yamamoto pits again and has not set a time.
10:11:15 Team-mate Sutil follows suit. No times yet from Monza.
10:11:50 Williams and Ferrari have yet to complete an installtion lap.
10:13:01 Sebastian Vettel is back out in his Toro Rosso Ferrari.
10:14:14 Vettel starts a timed lap.
10:16:02 A 1:26.8s lap from the young German. The lap record belongs to Barrichello from 2004 on a 1:20.1
10:17:34 Vettel pits. Alonso is out of the McLaren as the team seem to be working on the left rear side of the car.
10:18:20 Tonio Liuzzi head out in his STR. No sign of much activity in the Ferrari pit.
10:18:36 Now Trulli heads back out in his Toyota.
10:19:40 Nico Rosberg is on track for his installtion lap. The Williams team have a McLaren style front wing this weekend. McLaren are not running the design though, perhaps not needing the extra downforce from the upper element.
10:19:56 Ralf Schumacher is on track in the second Toyota.
10:21:07 A little understeer for Liuzzi through Ascari.
10:21:28 Trulli sets the pace from Vettel and Liuzzi at this early stage.
10:22:01 Rosberg pops fourth fastest.
10:22:34 Now Schumacher moves second fastest. The TF107 features pretty large rear wheel inserts this weekend.
10:23:08 Liuzzi joins Vettel in the STR pit.
10:23:33 Trulli is improving his own best lap each time around at the moment.
10:25:36 Giancarlo Fisichella heads out in his Renault as Rosberg uses too much road at Ascari and runs wide. He is now third fastest as Alex Wurz joins the action.
10:27:55 Fisichella's first timed lap moves him fourth fastest behind Rosberg, Schumacher and Trulli.
10:28:24 Team-mate Heikki Kovalainen is now on track as well as Wurz posts his first lap time of the session.
10:28:47 With a good advantage at this early stage over Schumacher, Trulli pits his TF107.
10:29:19 Fisichella is getting up to speed as he moves third fastest ahead of Rosberg.
10:29:57 30 minutes down, one hour to go. Still no sign of Massa or Raikkonen in this session.
10:30:47 Fisichella finds another four-tenths and moves second fastest.
10:31:12 Kovalainen's first timed lap moves his fifth fastest.
10:31:55 A big lock up fgor Kovalainen into the first chicane. Both fronts locked up.
10:32:19 Sato and Webber now on track for Super Aguri and Red Bull.
10:32:59 Sato is very agressive over the kerbing, really making the car jump around.
10:33:58 Sato moves P5 ahead of Webber and Wurz. Raikkonen is in his Ferrari and will be on track shortly.
10:34:16 Kovalainen improves and is now third fastest.
10:35:34 Sato gets some turn in oversteer into turn one and runs wide.
10:36:05 Davidson, Coulthard, Liuzzi, Barrichello, Kovalainen, Webber and Sato on track.
10:36:32 Davidson kicks up the dust at the exit of the second Lesmo.
10:37:45 Sato and Kovalainen both pit. A wild moment for Liuzzi who runs though the gravel but is able to continue. That was the exit of Lesmo 2 as the back end lost grip.
10:38:58 The Honda duo of Barrichello and Button are running together on track. Davidson improves and is now P5.
10:39:33 Hamilton is on track for McLaren. Massa, Raikkonen and Alonso remain in the pits.
10:39:55 Trulli and Schumacher are also back out.
10:40:42 Coulthard moves fourth for Red Bull. Massa is now in his car and ready to go out.
10:41:34 Hamilton's first timed lap of the session moves him fastest by a good margin.
10:42:10 Hamilton is pushing hard right from the start as he climbs all over the kerbing at the second chicane.
10:42:44 Hamilton passes a Toyota into the final turn. A really good tow.
10:44:13 Button is working his way up the order, but Barrichello pitted a short time ago seemingly ungappy with the car.
10:44:50 Kimi Raikkonen is now out for Ferrari. Hamilton has improved his own best and is now over a second clear of Trulli.
10:45:32 Raikkonen ruins Hamilton's lap but the McLaren driver gets ahead and will probably return the favour.
10:46:14 Fun and games as Hamilton compromises Raikkonen's first timed lap. Raikkonen backs off to get some room.
10:46:26 Felipe Massa heads out.
10:47:40 Alonso remains in the pits. No sign of Heidfeld yet either.
10:48:54 Raikkonen vaults to the head of the timesheets with Massa up to third.
10:49:26 Robert Kubica moves fourth fastest from BMW Sauber.
10:50:27 Raikkonen improves his own best time and Massa makes it a Ferrari one-two. Hamilton has returned to the pits.
10:51:04 An improvement of two positions for Kovalainen.
10:52:09 Alex Wurz is currently just 17th. He is back out in his Williams Toyota.
10:53:36 Massa improves his best time and is now just over a tenth slower than Raikkonen. Wurz picks up four position and moved up the order.
10:55:03 McLaren are still working on Alonso's MP4-22 following his misfire at the start of the session.
10:55:32 Fisichella is back out for his second proper run of the session.
10:56:40 Nick Heidfeld has yet to set a time in his BMW Sauber. He is howevr now back on track.
10:57:08 Fisichella moves up to sixth position ahead of Trulli.
10:58:40 Trulli is back out in his Toyota, but not improving at this stage. Fisichella picks up another position to move ahead of team-mate Kovalainen.
10:59:01 Another run across the first chicane for Takuma Sato.
10:59:42 Heidfeld moves sixth fastest on the soft tyres. Everyone has been running the hard tyres so far.
11:00:03 Heidfeld backs off on his second timed lap.
11:01:41 Alonso has his crash helmet on, so should be out shortly.
11:02:20 Webber is back out and is looking to improve his 17th best time.
11:03:06 Fisichella moves up another position and is now fourth fastest. Heidfeld cuts the second chicane.
11:03:33 Barrichello is now hauling himself from the bottom of the timesheets.
11:04:26 Webber does improve and is now up to 12th position.
11:04:59 A big moment for Heidfeld exiting Ascari as the back wanted to swap ends. A nice bit of control and he continued.
11:05:29 Raikkonen and Hamilton back out.
11:07:44 Hamilton backs off on his first timed lap. He now starts building up the poce again for the next lap.
11:07:59 Alonso is heading out.
11:08:53 Webber improves again and is now tenth fastest as Alonso misses the second chicane.
11:09:42 Massa is now out as well.
11:09:57 Hamilton improves but remains third fastest.
11:10:52 Hamilton and Alonso both on fast laps.
11:11:05 Alonso moves fourth fastest.
11:12:37 Tonio Liuzzi is currently slowest. He had a trip through the gravel earlier on, but has put in a good number of laps.
11:13:16 Raikkonen's second stint yields no improvement. He pits.
11:14:03 Raikkonen back out. Hamilton and Alonso both now pit.
11:14:58 Sato is back out and looking to jump ahead of team-mate Davidson.
11:17:31 Fisichella is on track and looking to close the gap to the McLaren duo.
11:19:26 Kovalainen now back out for Renault. Trulli has dropped to ninth and is back out as well.
11:20:46 Fisichella was unable to improve and has pitted the Renault.
11:21:37 Nico Rosberg (10th) is back out for Williams. He is on the soft tyre. Heidfeld is also on the soft tyre.
11:22:48 Raikkonen remains fastest. His best time so far int his session is eight tenths faster than the team managed in testing last week.
11:23:00 The front runners are in the pits.
11:23:15 Rosberg picks up five positions and moves fifth.
11:24:15 Rosberg's Williams looks very well suited to the circuit.
11:25:26 Raikkonen and Kubica back on track.
11:25:49 Just over four minutes remain. Most will head out to try and improve.
11:27:07 Kubica does not improve on his seventh best on soft tyres that lap. Alonso is pushing and is on the hard tyre.
11:27:49 Alonso is a tenth off his own best that time around. Most are now on track.
11:29:00 A small improvement for Alonso, but he remains fourth fastest.
11:29:45 Trulli picks up one position on the softer tyre.
11:30:06 The chequered flag is out.
11:30:24 Button improves and is now sixth fastest for Honda.
11:31:03 Raikkonen does not improve. He remains fastest though as Massa ended the session in the pits.
11:31:54 Alonso improves again but remains fourth fastest.
11:32:36 Raikkonen sets the morning pace from Massa, Hamilton, Alonso, Rosberg, Button, Fisichella, Kubica, Heidfeld and Trulli.
