10:50:26 It’s day two from Sepang. Welcome back to F1-Live.com and our live coverage of the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend.
10:52:44 Felipe Massa set the pace in both of yesterday’s two 90-minute sessions, indicating the Ferrari remain the team to be beat once again. Fernando Alonso was second fastest in the morning session, while Renault did a little show-boating to take the runner-up spot in the afternoon with Giancarlo Fisichella.
10:54:27 The real story however is that Ferrari are way ahead of its rivals and behind, it is a case of McLaren holding off – perhaps Renault and BMW - while Williams Toyota have shown well so far this weekend.
10:56:18 BMW Sauber has not shone so far in Malaysia, with both Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld struggling to find a balance on the F1.07. So strong in Melbourne, it remains to be seen if the team can run with McLaren and perhaps Renault this weekend.
10:59:13 With Friday practice over, the engine change rules now come into effect. It's a sunny dry morning in Malaysia.
11:00:03 The 60-minute Saturday morning practice session is underway.
11:00:52 The cars leave the pits and head out for an installation lap.
11:01:41 About half of the field has gone right out with the rest remaining in the pits.
11:03:02 Most seem to be heading back into the pits for checks. Takuma Sato stays out in his Super Aguri Honda.
11:03:54 Most have now completed that installtion lap. Raikkonen and Masa remain in the pits as Sato sets his first time of the day.
11:04:17 Sato's time is about a second off his Friday afternoon time.
11:04:40 Team-mate Davidson starts his first timed lap.
11:06:20 Davidson moves fastest from Sato. All of the other runners are in the pits.
11:07:44 Christijan Albers had a tough day yesterday with that tyre failure. He is on track now in his Spyker Ferrari. He was some 16kph slower than the F2007 yesterday with the same engine...
11:08:06 Team-mate Sutil joins the action.
11:08:49 Sato pits as Heidfeld and Ralf Schumacher head out.
11:10:55 First timed laps from Albers and Sutil. Robert Kubica joins team-mate Heidfeld on the circuit.
11:11:42 Schumacher moves third in the Toyota
11:12:08 Heidfeld moves fastest for BMW but Kubica should take the position soon.
11:13:16 Kubica does take the fastest time. They are faster than they were yesterday by over half a second.
11:13:50 Trulli moves third for Toyota. Massa is on his out lap.
11:14:53 Lewis Hamilton is on track in his McLaren Mercedes
11:16:29 Massa starts his first timed lap. His best yesterday was a 1:34.972.
11:17:38 Massa moves fastest for Ferrari. Raikkonen remains in the pits. Also no sign yet of Heikki Kovalainen.
11:18:12 Scott Speed moves up the order for STR as Hamilton takes P2 for McLaren.
11:20:31 Fernando Alonso is on his first hot lap of the session. He was closest to Massa yesterday...
11:20:52 Massa gains a few tenths and improves his own fastest lap time.
11:21:15 Alonso moves third fastest behind Hamilton and Massa.
11:22:41 Renault are busy at work. Kovalainen's car - we think - is in bits in the garage while work also being carried out on Fisichella's R27.
11:23:58 While Renault work hard, Alex Wurz has moved into teh top ten for Williams and Rosberg is now on track as well.
11:24:26 Hamilton and Alonso pit and interestingly Massa is still out. That's no low fuel run from the Brazilian.
11:26:09 Fisichella heads out in his Renault with 25 minutes of the session completed.
11:27:27 Kovalainen apparently has a fuel pump problem on his Renault. He had a similar problem in Melbourne....
11:28:18 Massa has pitted and joined his team-mate in the pits. Raikkonen has not been out yet while that was a longish run from Massa.
11:29:00 Fisichella's first timed lap is no blinder as he moves P13.
11:30:44 Webber heads back out in his Red Bull. He is some way off Coulthard at the moment. Raikkonen is probably saving mileage on his engine, hence his no show so far.
11:31:53 Kubica and Heidfeld are on track for BMW Sauber as Fisichella makes slight gains in the Renault.
11:32:24 Raikkonen heads out now in his Ferrari.
11:33:39 Fisichella pits the Renault.
11:35:22 Raikkonen vaults up the timesheets to second behind team-mate Massa.
11:35:41 Hamilton is back out for McLaren.
11:36:17 Late in the session, most will opt to complete a qualifying simulation lap.
11:36:48 Job done for now and Raikkonen pits.
11:37:10 Takuma Sato moves his Super Aguri into the top ten.
11:38:35 Hamilton is on a hot lap...
11:39:18 Hamilton moves fastest. That's the fastest time so far this weekend and is surely a low fuel and fresh tyre run.
11:41:18 Sure enough Hamilton pits. It is a good lap, but it is early days yet and we have yet to see what the others can do. Alonso is on track now in the second McLaren.
11:41:34 Massa heads back out.
11:43:37 At the back of the pack, Christijan Albers seems to have found some overnight improvements as he is ahead of Spyker team-mate Sutil for the forst time this year.
11:44:23 Alonso moves second fastest, half a second shy of Hamilton.
11:44:52 Massa regains the second spot demoting Alonso to third.
11:46:27 Alonso has pitted. Robert Kubica is back out looking to move up from fifth position.
11:48:02 Kubica picks up one position and is now fourth.
11:49:07 Heikki Kovalainen heads out with 12 minutes remaining.
11:49:45 Kovalainen pits at the end of his installtion lap.
11:50:07 Davidson meanwhile has moved into the top ten in his SA07.
11:51:12 Very little track activity as most have pitted. There will be a final rush at the end of the session.
11:53:47 Kovalainen is now reporting a gearbox issue with the Renault. He faces a tough time now in qualifying with so much track time lost.
11:54:03 Hamilton and Raikkonen head back out.
11:55:07 Fisichella, Heidfeld and others all now heading out for a final run.
11:55:39 Kovalainen - problem or not - is back out. It may just be another installation lap.
11:56:52 Alonso, Kubica and Trulli are in the pits as the track gets busy again.
11:57:21 Fisichella improves his own best but is still outside the top ten.
11:57:40 Now only Kubica and Trulli in the pits.
11:58:03 Ralf Schumacher vaults up from the bottom of the timesheets to seventh.
11:58:36 Raikkonen pits. Probably the end of the session for him.
11:59:33 Nope. Raikkonen is back out but the session is all but over.
12:00:02 The chequered flag is out.
12:01:32 So Lewis Hamilton heads the timesheets in a session for the first time ahead of qualifying.
12:02:37 Felipe Massa is second Ahead of Alonso, Kubica, Raikkonen and Rosberf who gains ground right at the end of the session. Heidfeld, Davidson, Ralf and Webber round out the top ten.
12:02:54 Kovalainen did get a timed lap in and is 18th.
