| Friday practice saw Lewis Hamilton top both the morning and afternoon sessions with a best time of 1:15.025, seven-tenths clear of Felipe Massa. Kimi Raikkonen was third ahead of Heikki Kovalainen. |

| Massa was one of the few drivers not to be on track in the final minutes of the session when Hamilton and others posted their fastest laps. Hamilton and McLaren may have the edge but not by seven-tenths of a second. |
