| Ferrari set the pace this morning with Felipe Massa ahead of Kimi Raikkonen. Massa set the best lap of 1:19.981s with Raikkonen just over three-tenths adrift. Massa ran the new shark fin engine cover throughout the session while Raikkonen tried the cover on his final run. |

| Heikki Kovalainen was third fastest for McLaren with championship leader Lewis Hamilton a tenth of a second back in fourth position. As ever, it looks to be a Ferrari-McLaren battle this weekend although Hamilton did abandon a hot lap at the end of the session. |
