| Practice this morning saw Fernando Alonso vault to the head of the timesheets in his Renault right at the end of the session. Perhaps a little light, but Alonso showed good pace on Friday afternoon and has to be considered a factor in the battle for pole position. |

| After a troubled Friday afternoon, Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen bounced back this morning with the second and third fastest times for McLaren ahead of title hopeful Felipe Massa in the leading Ferrari. |

| Massa needs to qualify ahead of Hamilton as his title hopes rest on him finishing the race in either first or second position with Hamilton finishing no higher than fifth or sixth. This session could well help determine the championship. |
