09:50:41 Welcome to F1-Live.com and coverage of the Friday practice sessions ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix. The first 90 minute session begins shortly.
09:52:26 Much of the news this week has been dominated by the withdrawal and closure of the Super Aguri Honda team. Formula One is now down to ten teams.
09:54:44 If recent Grand Prix are anything to go by, this first session is when we will see the front running teams – Ferrari and McLaren – at their fastest. The other practice sessions will see them run with race fuel on board in the knowledge they have the pace doe Q1 and Q2 tomorrow afternoon.
09:56:06 Rubens Barrichello may be into his second season without scoring a point, but the Honda racer this weekend celebrates his 257th Grand Prix start, breaking the record previously held by Ricardo Patrese.
09:58:15 Heikki Kovalainen was yesterday declared fit to race following his huge accident in Barcelona.
10:00:07 The practice session is now underway.
10:00:26 Adrian Sutil heads out in his Force India.
10:00:34 Expect most to head out, complete an installation lap and return to the pits for checks.
10:01:17 Giancarlo Fisichella joins his team-mate on track
10:01:39 Kubica, Bourdais and others now heading out.
10:02:12 Sutil and Fisichella are straight back into the pit as expected.
10:02:59 There are a few damp patches on the circuit, but they will not be a factor as it is warm and sunny and they will soon burn off.
10:04:33 Fisichella, Sutil, Kubica, Bourdais, Kovalainen, Heidfeld, Vettel, Nakajima and Rosberg have completed an installation lap.
10:04:47 Alonso and Piquet are out on track for Renault.
10:06:41 The Renault duo have pitted. Hamilton is now out in his McLaren.
10:08:13 Hamilton pits and now Coulthard is on his first lap of the day in his Red Bull. Coulthard has yet to score a point this season.
10:08:40 Jenson Button is out for Honda as Coulthard heads back in.
10:08:56 Mark Webber leaves his pit box.
10:09:46 Many opt to run a set of intermediate tyres for the installation lap. No need to post a time or wear a set of normal race tyres.
10:10:32 No sign yet of Barrichello, the Toyota and Ferrari teams.
10:11:21 Barrichello now heads out. His RA108 is sporting a big 257 banner on the side to mark Barrichello's record start.
10:13:02 The Brazilian pits. No one on track.
10:15:10 Timo Glock heads out for Toyota. No one has set a time yet.
10:16:47 Jarno Trulli joins his team-mate on the track.
10:19:35 The Toyota duo have pitted. No track activity. Only Massa and Raikkonen yet to go out.
10:23:26 Perahps with a few damp patches - especially through turn eight - there is even less activity than normal.
10:25:50 There's an engine running somewhere, but still no one on track.
10:29:57 30 minutes completed as the teams wait before sending the drivers out to start work on qualifying and race setup.
10:32:45 Lots of chit chat up and down the paddock, but nothing on the circuit itself. There are a few fans dotting the main grandstand, but not a lot of fans at the circuit.
10:34:40 The sun has gone in and there is still some wet patches on the circuit and therefore no running.
10:38:49 Aha! Sebastien Bourdais heads out in his Toro Rosso Ferrari.
10:39:43 The team had hoped to bring the new STR3 chassis to this Grand Prix, but delayed its introduction due to a lack of spare parts.
10:40:04 Heikki Kovalainen heads out in his McLaren Mercedes.
10:40:18 Bourdais starts a timed lap.
10:41:30 Bourdais gets a big wobble exiting turn ten but is able to continue.
10:41:53 The Frenchman sets the first timed lap of the session on a 1:33.7.
10:42:12 Kazuki Nakajima is now out as well in his Williams Toyota.
10:43:09 Kovalainen sets his first timed lap and is two seconds up on Bourdais.
10:43:23 Jarno Trulli on track for Toyota.
10:43:48 Webber and Vettel head out.
10:44:31 Kovalainen and Bourdais are improving by the lap as they adapt to the grip available.
10:45:18 Nakajima moves second fastest. There is a huge gap between Kovalainen and Bourdais.
10:45:36 Sutil, Fisichella, Heidfeld and Glock join the action.
10:47:25 Nakajima spins his Williams. The Japanese racer gets going again from a standstill at turn six.
10:47:39 Adrian Sutil takes to the grass.
10:48:04 Kovalainen fastest now from Glock and Heidfeld as Bourdais pits.
10:50:10 Plenty of track activity now. Trulli moves third fastest ahead of Heidfeld and Piquet. Rosberg runs wide and continues.
10:50:20 Trulli spins at turn six.
10:51:14 Hamilton now spins. There must be a real lack of grip.
10:51:43 Kovalainen pits his McLaren. He is fastest from Glock, Hamilton, Trulli and Piquet.
10:52:13 Raikkonen is on track for the first time today.
10:53:38 Raikkonen's first lap places him in the lower top ten.
10:54:09 Hamilton now second fastest ahead of Glock and Trulli.
10:54:55 Felipe Massa has spun his Ferrari in turn eight.
10:55:43 Raikkonen runs wide and loses time.
10:56:52 The fastest four have pitted. Raikkonen has pitted as well clearly unhappy with his first run.
10:57:34 Massa moves seventh on his first timed lap as Fisichella goes for a spin.
10:57:57 Fisichella just took too much kerbing and around the Force India went.
10:58:40 Hamilton's McLaren is having some bits of a dead animal, probably a bird, cleaned off his front wing.
10:58:59 Massa improves and is now third fastest.
10:59:11 Alonso is now on his first run.
11:00:39 Another half second gain from Massa who is now second fastest. Kubica runs off track at turn eight.
11:02:04 Massa now fastest but it is interesting to see how long it is taking for the car to warm its tyres.
11:03:41 Alonso is working his way up the order and is now eighth fastest.
11:04:46 Kovalainen is back out.
11:05:14 Another gain for Massa who is now six-tenths clear of Kovalainen.
11:06:37 Raikkonen is way down the order haviong completed just one very short stint before pitting.
11:07:24 Alonso moves third fastest for Renault
11:07:47 Massa pits after a long first stint.
11:08:16 Kovalainen runs off track and continues.
11:08:48 Hamilton is fourth and back on track. Now Coulthard runs wide through turn eight.
11:12:08 The drivers are clearly not finding the grip they were expecting with this number of drivers running wide and spinning.
11:13:30 While there is not a lot of grip, Massa's best time is faster than in the same session last year by over two-tenths of a second.
11:13:50 Vettel runs wide and cuts some grass with his STR.
11:14:11 Kovalainen is chipping away at his best time and has closed the gap to Massa.
11:16:00 A good save from Sutil who got his Force India all out of shape. He is currently 12th fastest.
11:16:30 Nick Heidfeld is back out and looking to make gains.
11:17:00 Raikkonen's F2008 is being worked on by the Ferrari team. Clearly some major setup issues with the car.
11:17:18 Heidfeld moves fifth fastest in his BMW Sauber.
11:18:55 Alonso and Piquet on track and seem to be on the pace again with the revised R28 package.
11:20:05 Button is 13th and looking to improve in his Honda. Team-mate Barrichello is also back out and running well.
11:20:27 Massa is back out in his F2008.
11:21:15 Button does improve and closes in on Barrichello.
11:22:43 Massa off a turn eight as he runs wide.
11:23:29 Martini sent out a press release yesterday saying they were to have their livery on the nose of the Ferarri. It must be very small as I cannot see it!
11:23:42 Massa starts another hot lap.
11:24:04 Button improves and is now ninth.
11:25:13 Massa improves his own best by a tenth. Five minutes remain.
11:25:27 Glock is on track using the soft tyre.
11:26:07 Another gain from both Button and Massa.
11:26:23 The track is now busy with only a few minutes remaining.
11:26:57 Raikkonen is not going out again. He must have a mechanical issue as well as a handling problem.
11:27:23 Hamilton improves on the hard tyre and is now third fastest.
11:27:56 Kovalainen is on the soft tyre now.
11:29:31 Nakajima improves and is now tenth in his Williams.
11:29:51 Kovalainen improves on the softer tyre but remains second overall.
11:30:02 The chequered flag is out.
11:30:44 It doesn't look like anyone is going to improve as Kovalainen backs off.
11:31:04 Vettel improves and moves ahead of Raikkonen who ends the session slowest.
11:31:43 So Ferrari fastest and slowest. Massa leads the way from Kovalainen, Hamilton, Alonso, Button and Nakajima who improved again on his final lap.
