| Practice this morning saw mixed fortunes in the Ferrari camp with Felipe Massa setting the pace with a best time of 1:27.323s while Kimi Raikkonen only completed three laps before pitting with a gearbox problem. He was subsequently slowest of the 20 runners. |

| McLaren Mercedes looked reasonably strong on cold tyres but had no answer to Massa’s pace over the longer stint. Heikki Kovalainen was second fastest a tenth of a second behind Massa using the softer option tyre while Lewis Hamilton was third fastest. |
