12.30Welcome to F1-Live.com and live coverage of the 70-lap Canadian Grand Prix. The race gets underway in just over 30 minutes.
12.32Lewis Hamilton has claimed his eighth career pole position in Montreal as he looks to repeat his 2007 result at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The McLaren driver took the pole by a massive six-tenths of a second from Robert Kubica and starts the race as firm favourite for victory.
12.34Kubica’s run to the front row was an excellent result, as BMW Sauber chase their first Grand Prix win. While Nick Heidfeld has not made the best of the car, Kubica is pushing on at a circuit that saw him exit so dramatically last year..
12.36Kim Raikkonen starts third in the leading Ferrari as the team blamed the breakup of the track surface at turn ten for his relatively poor qualifying pace. The Finn was over eight-tenths off the pace of Hamilton yesterday and if that is repeated again today, Raikkonen will be chasing points rather than the win.
12.38The track surface has been worked on overnight following the breakup of the tarmac at turns seven and ten yesterday. The organisers hope that the fixes or parches will be enough to last the full scheduled 70 laps this afternoon.
12.40Fernando Alonso starts an excellent fourth for Renault. The former champion really pushed hard in qualifying and the second row start is more down to his skill than the car he has at his disposal. Alonso however may be a little light on fuel.
12.42Nico Rosberg starts fifth in the Williams Toyota and will be targeting a good result this afternoon. Last time out at Monaco the German was in a similar position but ran into the back of Alonso on lap one and that effectively ruined his race. Rosberg will be hoping for better in Montreal.
12.44Felipe Massa starts sixth in the second Ferrari and will be seeking points for his championship aspirations as will Heikki Kovalainen who was off the pace yesterday in the second McLaren, lapping 1.2 second slower than team-mate Hamilton.
12.46Nick Heidfeld continues his qualifying struggle, but is normally a safe bet in the race itself. He may not have Kubica’s pace, but it is rare for him to make mistakes on race day.
12.48Rubens Barrichello starts an excellent ninth in his Honda as he chases points in his second straight race. Starting on the penultimate row team-mate Jenson Button has simply to hope o0thers hit trouble and he can be there at the chequered flag.
12.50Mark Webber should have qualified better than tenth in his Red Bull Renault, but a spin and contact with the wall at the end of Q2 curtailed his day yesterday. Look for Webber to move up the order and battle with Rosberg and Heidfeld.
12.52Toyota had a poor day on Saturday with Timo Glock qualifying 11th and Jarno Trulli 14th. Glock ran reasonably well but Trulli has looked lost all weekend as he cannot find the balance on his TF108. Points would be a nice bonus for the team this weekend.
12.54Kazuki Nakajima starts 12th in the second Williams ahead of David Coulthard, Trulli and Nelson Piquet who really does need a result in Montreal.
12.56With others taking penalties, Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella line up 16th and 17th for Force India ahead of Jenson Button and Sebastien Bourdais who drops back courtesy of a gearbox change penalty. Sebastian Vettel starts from the pit lane in the spare Toro Rosso, but can still show well as the STR3 has been pretty good at this circuit.
12.58It is a sunny but windy afternoon in Montreal. The drivers are on the grid as the countdown to the Canadian Grand Prix continues. Apparently work has only just finished on certain parts of the circuit so the drivers really are heading into the unknown.
12.59The engines fire up and the grid is being cleared. Button is joining Vettel in starting from the pit lane.
13.00The parade lap is now underway. Hamilton is on soft tyres, the rest on hard tyres.
13.00Rosberg is also on the soft tyre.
13.02Hamilton lines his McLaren up on the pole position with Kubica, Raikkonen, Alonso, Rosberg, Massa and the rest taking up position.
Lap 1The Canadian Grand Prix is underway.
Lap 1A clean start through turns one and two.
Lap 1Trulli passes Glock. Rosberg is up to fourth.
Lap 1Hamilton leads Kubica, Raikkone, Rosberg, Alonso, Massa.
Lap 2Kovalainen is seventh ahead of Barrichello, Heidfeld, Nakajima, Webber, Voulthard, Trulli. Glock.
Lap 3Rosberg made the the pass on Alonso at turn two on lap one.
Lap 3Nakajima is under pressure from Webber for tenth position.
Lap 4Heidfeld also lost a position at the start and now runs behind Barrichello.
Lap 4Heidfeld almost runs into the back of Barrichello into the hairpin but just avoids contact.
Lap 5Hamilton pulled a second on Kibica on that last lap.
Lap 5Heidfeld passes Barrichello into turn ten with a good clean pass.
Lap 6Hamilton leads Kubica, Raikkonen, Rosberg and Alonso.
Lap 7Vettel is now ahead of Bourdais in the STR battle over P18.
Lap 8Kubica is now keeping pace with Hamilton and the gap remains about three seconds.
Lap 8Massa is looking to find a way ahead of of Alonso.
Lap 10A good lap fom Hamilton and he extends his cushion over Kubica by another second.
Lap 10Piquet passes Glock as he got a good run off the final turn.
Lap 11Piquet now all over the back of Trulli and looking for another position.
Lap 12Kovalainen is five second behind Massa now in seventh position.
Lap 13A nice pass fromn Piquet as he passes Trulli into the hairpin, turn ten. Some slight contact but that is fine.
Lap 13So Piquet has passed both Toyota racers. Kovalainen now under pressure form Heidfeld.
Lap 15Adrian Sutil stopped on track. Sutil was 16th in his Force India.
Lap 15There are yellow flags for Sutil's car. No sign of contact so a mechanical problem
Lap 16Raikkonen is now putting pressure on Kubica for second position. Sutil's car is now having a little fire on the brakes.
Lap 17The safety car is on track so they can remove Sutil's car.
Lap 18Button pits from the back.
Lap 18This is a silly safety car as it is three laps after all the drivers first saw the car stopped.
Lap 19Button pitted while the pits were close and will therefore have a drive through penalty. The pits are now open.
Lap 19Most are pitting. The top seven all pit with Piquet, Vettel
Lap 20Hamilton has hit the back of Raikkonebn in the pits. Hamilton has damage.
Lap 20So Hamilton and Raikkonen out. So we have Rosberg also involved. Basically Kubica and Raikkonen beat Hamilton in the stops and stopped at the red light at the end of the pit lane. Hamilton just rammed Raikkonen as he did not see the light and then Rosberg hit the back of Hamilton.
Lap 20Rosberg is back in the pit for a new front wing.
Lap 21So Heidfeld leads Barrichello, Nakajima, Webber, Coulthard, Trulli, Glock, Fisichella, Vettel. They have not pitted.
Lap 21Kubica is the first of those who have pitted in P10.
Lap 22The race is back underway and Massa has pitted.
Lap 22So Massa drops from 12th to the back. A bad day for Ferrari so far.
Lap 24So all change. Those who did not pit are probably on a one stop race anyway so this is now a real race what Heidfeld is leading.
Lap 24Alonso and Piquet run together in 11th and 12th.
Lap 25Heidfeld has pulled out seven seconds on Barrichello who is holding up those behind him.
Lap 26Massa runs in 17th and is 11 seconds behind Bourdais. He stopped twice for some reason. Must have been a fuel problem.
Lap 28Piquet spins the Renault at turn three and is lucky not to hit the wall. His Renault seems to be putting out a lot of brake dust. Piquet was 12th
Lap 29Piquet drops to 17th and last.
Lap 29Nick Heidfeld pits his BMW Sauber from the lead. Webber also pits.
Lap 30Heidfeld exits right in front of Kubica.
Lap 31Kubica passes Heidfeld into turn two. A good pass for seventh. Fisichella pits. BArrichello now leads Nakajima, Coulthard, Trulli, Glock, Bettel and Kubica.
Lap 32Actually Heidfeld allowed Kubica to pass with ease. He is heavy on fuel on a one stop. Kubica is on a two stop.
Lap 33Heidfeld is on the soft tyre which he has to be and is holing off Alonso. A long way to go on the super soft tyre.
Lap 34Massa passes Webber into turn ten but then runs wide and Webber regains the position.
Lap 34Nakajima has pitted, he was second.
Lap 36Kubica still rins in sixth position as Rosberg pits again. Kubica has pulled ninw seconds on Heidfeld already.
Lap 37Barrichello pits from the lead. Coultahrd now leads Trulli, Glock, Vettel, Kubica.
Lap 37Coulthard pits from the lead. Massa has passed Webber and is now Aall over Nakajima.
Lap 38Coulthard and Vettel pit.
Lap 38Coulthard exits ahead of Heidfeld.
Lap 38So now Trulli leads Glock, Kubica. Heidfeld is fourth, I was wrong, ahead of Alonso and Coulthard.
Lap 39Trulli now pits from the lead.
Lap 40Nakajima loses speed pit of the final turn as be battles with Button and Massa punces into turn one.
Lap 41Glock now leads Kubica who is challenging to pass.
Lap 41Glock is fending off Kubica.
Lap 42Piquet is retiring the Renault. His car is covered in brake dust so clearly the brakes have worn out.
Lap 42Glock pits from the lead and now Kubica needs to really fly to get the gap out from 11s to at least 25.
Lap[ 43So the BMW Sauber team are now looking good for a one two result. Kubica needs to extend the gap as he has to pit again.
Lap 44Bourdais has a problem in the pits. The fuel man had a problem getting the hose off. Alonso runs wide at turn ten trying to pass Heidfeld.
Lap 45Alonso looks much faster than Heidfeld as they fight over P2.
Lap 45Alonso has hit the wall at turn seven. He was in third and challenging Heidfeld for position.
Lap 46Minor damage to the R28 but that is his day done. Two renaults already out.
Lap 47Kubica is lapping over two seconds a lap faster than team-mate Heidfeld and will be able to get the gap to what he needs.
Lap 48Nakajima hits the back of Button (8th)and breaks his wing. He makes it back to the pit and the wing goes under the car and he his the wall in the pit...
Lap 49Kubica pits from the lead with a 25s lead over Heidfeld.
Lap 49Kubica exits ahead of Heidfeld.
Lap 51Barrichello still runs fourth in the Honda with Kovalainen and Massa right behind but unable to make the pass
Lap 52A great pass. Kovalainen passes Barrichello and Massa goes down the inside at turn ten and passes the both of them!
Lap 52Great driving from Massa there.
Lap 53Barrichello is now sixth with Button right behind.
Lap 53Coulthard still run third.
Lap 53Fisichella has crashed exiting turn four. He backs. the FI into th barriers.
Lap 54Massa, Kovalainen, Button and Webber all out.
Lap 54There is no safety car, just local yellows.
Lap 55Fisichella was in 14th and his car has been cleared.
Lap 56Barrichello now has Glock and Trulli right behind him as he is back in fourth with Massa and Kovalainen pitting again.
Lap 59Coulthard runs wide at turn seven but is able to continue.
Lap 59Coulthard is all set for his first points of the season as he runs third.
Lap 59Glock runs in fifth and could be on for his first points as well.
Lap 60Barrichello takes to the grass and loses fourth position to both Glock and Trulli.
Lap 61Vettel runs P8 and defending from Rosberg who then loses speed out of the final turn and Kovalainen takes the position.
Lap 61Turn seven is getting very slippery. Massa passes Barrichello with ease on the back straight.
Lap 61Kubica is on target for BMW Sauber's first Formule One win.
Lap 65Vettel has now caught Barrichello and has Kovalainen right behind him.
Lap 66Massa has caught Trulli. Plenty of action still!
Lap 67Barrichello is holding off Vettel who is holding off Kovalainen.
Lap 67Vettel runs across the final chicane and continues.
Lap 68Trulli slow out of trun two and Massa passes.
Lap 69Massa is now right with Glock and wants fourth.
Lap 69A spin for Webber.
Lap 70Robert Kubica wins the Canadian Grand Prix, the first for BMW Sauber.
Lap 70Kubica also takes the championship lead... Nick Heidfeld is second making it a one-two result.
Lap 70A much needed third for Coulthard ahead of Glock who holds off Massa. Trulli is sixth ahead of Barrichello and Vettel.
