13:50:23 Welcome to F1-Live.com and live coverage of the Italian Grand Prix qualifying session. To spice up the action a little, it is a wet and rainy day at Monza.
13:52:16 In the wet morning practice session, Timo Glock set the pace ahead of the heavier rains with a best time of 1:35.464s, over ten seconds off the dry times recorded on Friday afternoon.
13:54:30 The rain has made life difficult for the teams as they only have four sets in intermediate tyre and three sets of full wet tyre to use all weekend. So far we have had four hours of potential practice time and much of that has either been in wet or damp conditions.
13:56:14 The times from this morning do not mean a great deal as some were set in less wet conditions than others. However, for the record, Glock was fastest from Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Jarno Trulli, Kazuki Nakajima, Nick Heidfeld, David Coulthard and Felipe Massa.
13:57:14 Underlining the varying conditions this morning, Kimi Raikkonen, Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton were the slowest three on track as they lapped in very wet conditions at the end of the session.
13:58:15 As ever, qualifying is divided into three sessions with the slowest five eliminated from session one and two leaving the final ten to take race fuel on board and go for the pole position.
14:00:09 Q1 is now underway. This is a 20 minute session.
14:00:31 Adrian Sutil leads the field out of pit lane. It is very wet.
14:00:47 It seems too wet for intermediate tyres.
14:01:06 Everyone but Hamilton straight out.
14:01:24 Now Hamilton is heading out on the full wet tyres.
14:02:01 This is going to be a wild ride. There is much spray and standing water.
14:02:15 Heidfeld spins at Parabolica.
14:02:43 Heidfeld gets going again.
14:03:03 They are now all on the first timed lap of the session.
14:03:24 Alonso cuts the first chicane. There will be many doing that.
14:04:59 The first times are in and Glocks is fastest.
14:05:20 Now Hamilton moves fastest ahead of Glock, Bourdais, Sutil and Piquet.
14:05:34 Glock improves and is fastest again.
14:05:56 Piquet cuts across the first chicane.
14:06:25 Trulli has moved second fastest ahead of Heidfeld.
14:06:45 Kovalainen jumps second fastest. Raikkonen is currently slowest.
14:07:28 Rememeber, all that matters in this session is being in the top 15. The likes of Force India have a good chance to make Q2 today.
14:08:08 Raikkonen moves tenth and Webber is now slowest.
14:09:07 Kovalainen is now fastest from Glock and Sutil. Bourdais is P4 ahead of Trulli and Webber. The times are changing all the time with all but Piquet on track at the moment.
14:09:42 Piquet heads back out in his Renault.
14:10:15 Vettel moves second for Toro Rosso as Barrichello runs off track at Ascari.
14:10:37 Hamilton moves second fastest. The slowest five are Makajima, Massa, Fisichella, Button and Piquet.
14:11:20 Rosberg moves third fastest. Fisichella is in the pits.
14:12:20 Glock is now down to tenth and pits his Toyota.
14:12:55 A good lap from Heidfeld moves him up to second. Fisichella is slowest and now going back out.
14:13:20 A number of drivers now pitting ahead of the final run in Q1.
14:14:21 Rosberg improves and is now second in his Williams Toyota.
14:14:35 Now Massa takes the second position in his Ferrari.
14:15:39 Trulli is now in the top ten leaving Fisichella, Piquet, Webber, Sutil and Button in the bottom five.
14:16:54 Kovalainen improves his own best time.
14:17:27 Piquet finds traffic and backs off on this lap. He needs to find time.
14:18:11 The full wet tyres have now cleared the standing water, so there is now a line that is not full wet.
14:18:35 Less than two minutes remain and Kovalainen remains fastest and has pitted.
14:19:06 Rosberg is now second from Bourdais in third.
14:19:18 Alonso cuts the first chicane.
14:20:12 The chequered flag is out.
14:20:33 A number of drivers on better laps as Hamilton moves P2.
14:20:59 Alonso moves 12th.
14:21:12 Fisichella moves 13th.
14:21:20 Raikkonen moves 11th.
14:21:41 Nakajima cuts the first chicane.
14:22:06 So the slowest five are: Barrichello, Piquet, Nakajima, Button and Sutil.
14:22:34 Fisichella has made it into Q2 in his Force India Ferrari. That is the first time this year he has done that.
14:23:07 So with Kovalainen fastest from McLaren team-mate Hamilton, there is now a short pause ahead of Q2.
14:27:10 Q2 is now underway and this is a 15 minute session.
14:27:33 The rains continues to fall as they head back out for the second round of qualifying.
14:28:30 They remain on the full wet tyres. There are just three sets of these per car for the whole weekend so tyre management is an issue.
14:28:42 All 15 runners are back out.
14:29:23 If anything, it now seems wetter than in Q1.
14:29:36 Hamilton pits his McLaren.
14:30:55 Fisichella sets the initial pace from Bourdais but that will change as they all complete the first lap.
14:31:27 Kovalainen is now fastest from Trulli, Webber, Fisichella.
14:32:02 It is getting wetter and wetter.
14:32:20 Hamilton is the only driver not to set a time.
14:32:45 Vettel moves fastest in his Toro Rosso from Kovalainen and Rosberg.
14:33:14 Raikkonen nearly loses the Ferrari exiting Ascari. He continues but that was nearly a bad accident.
14:33:45 There is now a lot of standing water but so far the full wets are coping.
14:34:05 Raikkonen is 14th at the moment behind Coulthard, Massa and Fisichella.
14:34:32 Hamilton is on his first lap but it is slow. He has real problems.
14:34:48 Webber pits his Red Bull.
14:35:12 Hamilton is now 15th on his first lap. He and Ferrari is big trouble.
14:35:56 Vettel remains fastest and has pitted.
14:36:25 Massa moves tenth fastest and safe for the time being.
14:36:46 Another lap from Hamilton and he remains 15th which is a big surprise.
14:36:58 Raikkonen is just 14th and pits his Ferrari.
14:37:16 Less than five minutes remain.
14:37:43 Kubica moves from 11th to tenth.
14:37:54 Hamilton is off and on at Ascari. He resumes.
14:38:07 Massa moves P10 demoting Kubica to 11th.
14:38:44 The slowest five are Hamilton, Raikkonen, Coulthard, Fisichella and Kubica.
14:39:10 Three minutes remain and all 15 drivers are on track.
14:40:15 Hamilton completes another lap and remain 15th, Raikkonen is still 14th.
14:40:35 Kovalainen, second, pits. He is safe for sure.
14:41:06 Webber pits his Red Bull.
14:41:35 Hamilton is not going to do it, he remains too slow in the second McLaren.
14:42:01 The chequered flag is out.
14:42:13 Can anyone improve?
14:42:29 Kubica spins the BMW at Ascari.
14:42:49 That was a high speed spin for Kubica going onto the back straight.
14:43:18 So the slowest five are Hamilton, Raikkonen, Coulthard, Fisichella and Kubica.
14:44:12 So some big names do not make it into Q3. Massa did a good job to make it to P10 and is now through while his title rivals all fail to make the cut.
14:45:02 Vettel was fastest on a 1:38.8. There is now a short pause as race fuel is added.
14:50:16 Q3 is now underway and this is a ten minute session. It is still raining...
14:50:40 They are all heading out onto the wet circuit.
14:51:13 Webber aside, they are all straight out.
14:52:01 It remaisn very wet but not as much spray as in Q2.
14:52:16 Massa starts his first timed lap of the session.
14:53:11 Massa has a wobble into the second Lesmo.
14:54:05 Bourdais sets the initial pace from Trulli, Rosberg and Massa.
14:54:35 Kovalainen moves fastest in the sole surviving McLaren.
14:55:16 Webber is third fastest ahead of Alonso, Trulli and Heidfeld as they have all now completed a first timed lap.
14:55:33 Massa improves and is now P4.
14:56:27 Vettel is now fastest from Kovalainen. This could be a shock with a STR on the pole position.
14:57:05 A big slide from Vettel who continues to push very hard.
14:57:22 Rosberg moves third fastest.
14:58:11 Webber improves and regains third position.
14:58:51 A big spin from Bourdais exiting Ascari.
14:59:22 The rain is harder again making the final minutes very tense.
14:59:37 Vettel is on the provisional pole at the moment.
15:00:05 The chequered flag is out.
15:00:13 Can anyone improve?
15:00:38 Massa takes the flag and moves sixth fastest.
15:00:56 Bourdais remains third.
15:01:20 Kovalainen remains second so I think Vettel is on the pole position!
15:01:30 Webber moves third fastest.
15:01:42 A great lap from Webber to improve on his last lap.
15:02:38 So Vettel is on pole position for the Italian Grand Prix from Kovalainen, Webber, Bourdais, Rosberg, Massa, Trulli, Alonso, Glock and Heidfeld.
